ABSTRACT

Deep venous thrombosis is a lifethreatening problem that can be faced in many condition in the progress of the cancer cases. Cancer, itself, is a risk factor for the venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism is one of the leading cause of the mortality at the end stage cancer patients. In gynecological oncology, patients are more susceptible to venous thrombosis because of the compression of the iliac veins by pelvic mass. Herein we present a 69 year old preoperative ovarian cancer patient with inferior vena cava thrombosis diagnosed with abdominal computed tomography (CT). Inferior vena cava (IVC) filter was placed prior to operation. On follow up after surgery, CT demostrate patent IVC with no clot. Therefore filter was removed and exvivo evaluation of the filter showed, the caval clot was actually caught by the filter.
