ABSTRACT
Introduction:
Emergency departments should have qualifiedness of rapid diagnosis and treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the exitus of a aptient in the department of Emergency.
Method:
Data from hospital records of all dead patients in emergency department retrospectively investigated.
Results:
In the emergency department, 322 cases lost their lives during their treatment between the date of 01.01.2001–12.31.2003. Mean age of all dead patients in emergency department was found as 57,8±20,46 years. Two hundred and fifty-four cases were transported with ambulance. Two hundred and forty cases were transported from another hospital. Of the patients who transported from another hospital, 175 were transported from another emergency department, 65 were transported from the services which bedside rooms. Consciousness was the most frequent symptom. Dyspnea and trauma were followed the consciousness. On admission, 96 of the patients were in cardiopulmonary arrest, Glasgow coma scale score of 147 cases were in 3.
Conclusion:
The mortality of emergency department may be decreased by the suitable transport of patients and use the emergency departments as appropriate use.
