ABSTRACT

Ingested foreign bodies present a common emergency problem. The rate of perforation due to the foreign body ingestion is 1%. In this study, we reported 20 years old man having recto-sigmoid perforation following the ingestion foreign bodies. A patient having ingested multiple foreign bodies applied to emergency department with complaints of fever and abdominal pain. Elevated white blood cell count was detected in laboratory investigations and multiple radiopaque foreign body images were demonstrated on X-ray. Based on peritoneal findings, prompt surgical approach was carried on. During the exploration, in the stomach a group of sharp metallic foreign bodies and in the terminal ileum two oval shaped bodies were palpated. Additionally a perforation was seen due to sharp metallic body. Gastrotomy was performed for removing the foreign bodies in the stomach and oval bodies in the terminal ileum were pushed into ceacum passing through the ileocecal valve. Recto-sigmoid perforation was sutured after removal of sharp body. Residue foreign body was controlled with multiple per-operative direct x-ray graphics. The oval foreign bodies having pushed in to ceacum were followed with daily x-ray graphics. No complication was occurred.
