Tetanus is a disease of acute onset, caused by C.tetani toxin, and is characterized by muscular fasciculations. It has a high mortality because of complications. Usually associated with dirty and necrotic (tetanogenious) wounds, the toxin named tetanospasmine is responsible for the disease. Diagnosis is usually made clinically. With proper immunization and treatment, mortality can be decreased. High treatment priorities are preventing the bacteria from delivering more toxin, and decreasing the complication rate. However, the most important aspect of management is prevention; public awareness programs about immunization and the types of disease. People who have had the disease should still maintain up-to-date immunization.
