Paradoxical vocal cord adduction is a rare laryngeal condition which may cause respiratory symptoms similar to those of asthma. Patients with severe forms of this dysfunction may present with such severe symptoms that intubation and tracheostomy must be performed. The differential diagnoses and evaluation and treatment of this disorder are discussed in light of recent literature.
